Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Virtual Assistant?
A Virtual Assistant (or VA) is an independent contractor who is hired to provide certain services to their clients outside of the client’s office, from a remote location. These services are generally administrative in nature. Some examples include: social media management, overseeing projects, bookkeeping, graphic design, calendar management, booking travel, etc.
Why should I hire a Virtual Assistant?
Here’s a list of potential benefits:· VAs help free up your time from mundane tasks so you have focus on high priority projects.· VAs are more cost-effect than traditional, full-time employees.· VAs can help streamline your business.· There is minimal commitment with a VA compared to a W-2 employee.
How is a contractor different than an employee?
A VA is NOT a W-2 employee. You do not put them on your payroll, you are not responsible for their taxes, and they do not receive benefits. Think of a VA as a vendor you have contracted with. Some VAs are 1099s contractors and others have established their own legal entity. My business is an LLC.Virtual Assistants work on their own time, they are not on your schedule like a regular W-2 employee. You contract them for a specific service or agreed upon amount of time. For example, your business may be open from 9-5, but your VA may be setting your calendar, engaging with your social media, or doing your research at 7 am or 10 pm.Often, regular W-2 employees are full time employees. Most VAs work part time for multiple clients. This allows the client (you) to pay for only the time and services that you need, instead of a full time employee sitting around with not enough to do.
What if I don’t see the services I need listed on your website?
This website would grow very long indeed if I listed out every possible way I can help you! The services page is a general idea of the most asked-for services. If you have something else in mind, shoot me a message at YourGirlFriday.jls@gmail.com and I’ll let you know if I can help. Chances are, if I’m unable to assist, I can suggest someone who can!
How do I work with a Virtual Assistant?
The big answer here is communication!! Because VAs aren’t in your office sitting next to you, you will want to make sure that you always have clear and open channels of communication between you and your VA. I recommend weekly calls in the beginning of the relationship to make sure everyone is on the same page and expectations both ways are set. After a clear cadence has been set, those calls can adjust as needed. It’s also a good idea to have a dedicated method of communication worked out between you and your VA, which could be text messages, emails, or an instant message system. Make sure to give timely feedback. If you’re unhappy with the way your VA is handling a task, don’t be afraid to let them know. VAs work with many different clients and are highly adaptable. If you prefer something is done a certain way, they can’t do it unless you express it to them.
